If You’re Reading This, It’s NOT Too Late

“What do you want to be when you grow up?” We’ve all heard this question before, and for most people, the answer is constantly evolving. Being a student in college can sometimes involve stress, anxiety and uncertainty. If you’ve ever experienced any or all of these emotions, trust me, you’re not alone. Planning for the future can be pretty overwhelming, and it’s easy to get lost in the process.

Graduate high school, go to college, get a degree, start a career. That’s the path many students try to follow, but it’s not that simple. You will face obstacles, and there will be roadblocks that slow you down, but just keep moving forward and don’t give up. Take it one day at a time. You’ll look back someday and be glad that you didn’t give up.

It’s important to set goals and plan for your future, but don’t get discouraged if you don’t know exactly what it is that you want to do with your life. If it’s not a career that you’re worried about, try focusing on harnessing positivity and living a happy lifestyle. Do what makes you happy and use the present to your advantage by being productive.

To be successful in the future, it’s important to use your time wisely and work hard now. What’s something that you can be doing right today that will make improvements to your life? In the words of Shia LaBeouf, “Just do it!” I know we all laugh at that video of him screaming strange motivational phrases into a camera, but it’s true. If you’ve never seen this video I’m referencing, you can watch it here:

Find what makes you happy and just run with it. Too many people sell themselves short and make excuses as to why they don’t accomplish great things. All of the parody videos that went viral of LaBeouf are pretty hilarious, but if you can get past the humor of his awkward flexing poses and his beautiful ponytail, his message is really powerful. “Don’t let your dreams be dreams,” he claims. Be persistent and work hard to turn your dreams into reality.

You have a choice. Do you want to fit in, or do you wish to stand out? Some people are completely content with being average, and that’s fine, but it’s important to know that you don’t have to be. It’s not going to be easy, but you are capable of achieving amazing things. Break away from being average, and be amazing. Life starts at the end of your comfort zone, so find that courage you have inside of you and JUST DO IT!

A good start to accomplishing great things is surrounding yourself with individuals that motivate you. If you’re a student at UCF within the fields of communication arts and sciences and want to get involved in an organization that is full of people who are always striving for success, I suggest you look into Zeta Phi Eta, Professional Communication Fraternity.
